A primary election is only required for municipal elections if more than three candidates file for a position. The primary is necessary to reduce the number of candidates to two for the general election. The primary (if required) is held on the first Tuesday in August, and the general election is the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November. [KSA 25-2021, 25-2108a].
