"My favorite thing about working for Finney County is that I get the right amount of direction from the Commission and administration, while still having the ability to move the department in the direction I believe it should go."
A Garden City native, Skylar began his career with Finney County in 1999 as a part-time Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He started working full-time in 2002, and became the director in January of 2014.
Skylar supervises 18 full-time EMTs, 15 part-time EMTs, and two office staff. As director, he is also responsible for developing the department's annual budget and presenting the request to the Commission. He oversees expenses and the general administration of policies and procedures.
His passion for the job not only comes from the variety of his day-to-day schedule, but that he is able to help people in their greatest hour of need.
"My goal for Finney County EMS is that we would continue to be the premier EMS service for Southwest Kansas."
Skylar's wife, Ora, has long ties to the community as well. Her family has owned their trucking company here for 25 years. Skylar and Ora are raising their son and two daughters.
