History
Finney County is the second largest County in land area in Kansas consisting of 1,302 square miles and over 1,200 miles of maintained roadway. It offers an interesting history and a variety of attractions and activities. With a current population of approximately 40,000, it is the largest County in Western Kansas.
County Coordinates
The County seat is
Garden City. Finney County measures 48 miles east to west across the top, 24 miles across the bottom, is 36 miles north to south at the widest point, and 18 miles in the panhandle. Finney County is located in southwest Kansas approximately 200 miles west of Wichita and 300 miles southeast of Denver, Colorado. US Highways 83 and 50/400 and Kansas Highways 156 and 23 serve the County.
Economy
Finney County's economy consists mainly of farming and ranching in addition to some manufacturing. Wheat, corn, and milo are the primary crops along with soybeans, sunflowers, alfalfa, and others. Tyson has a large beef packing plant in
Holcomb, KS seven miles west of Garden City. For economic development information, visit
