This is our largest Division and is broken down into Section Maintenance, Hauling, Construction, and Sand & Gravel Production. Each Division is essential for Public Works in providing residents and the traveling public of Finney County with the safest roads possible.
Finney County is divided into nine maintenance sections, each averaging 136 miles of road per section. Section Maintenance is made up of a Section Foreman and each section has an operator dedicated to that section. The primary responsibilities of the operator is grading, mowing, and snow removal. See Section Map
The Road and Bridge Division operates its own truck fleet consisting of tandem axle dump trucks, semis with trailers (bottom dumps, tanks and haul trailers), water trucks, and five trucks dedicated to snow removal. The primary function of the trucks is to haul materials to the section operators and the construction crews as needed.
The construction crews primary responsibility is to build or rebuild gravel roads, asphalt maintenance, process white rock, bridge repair and construction, and various other maintenance projects as needed. The construction crew also helps out with section maintenance and with sand and gravel production.
Sand & Gravel Production
Finney County Road and Bridge manages and operates its own sand and gravel pit, producing materials for use on County roads. The sand and gravel operation consists of a hydraulic dredge and a dry screening plant. The operation is run with three - four employees producing a variety of materials including road gravel, sealing sand, and aggregate for asphalt.
