History of The Finney County EMS

EMS in Finney County began in 1976. It has progressed through new developments and changes. Also, EMS personnel take part in many community activities, have educational programs, and training classes. Finney County EMS is the first advanced life support (ALS) system west of Hutchinson, and provides personnel for many other Southwest Kansas areas. Finney County EMS is one of two American Heart Association Community Training Centers in South Western Kansas, and responsible for over 200 instructors at all levels.

EMS is one of the newer public components, is 30 years old in the State of Kansas. Working with other county offices to better serve the public in the "Circle of Saving Lives" is one of the primary missions of Finney County EMS. The personnel are constantly learning as a department and striving to have a better understanding of what their job responsibilities are.

EMS is proud of their history and is always willing to move on to newer technology and even better EMS techniques. One of the areas of emphasis currently being placed on our system is to promote public understanding of the duties and responsibilities of an EMS technician. Better public awareness can increase the realization of the need for Emergency Medical Services.
