The Finney County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit
The K-9 Unit is a specialized unit within the patrol division consisting of two officers and two specially trained German Shepherds. A handler must possess a multitude of qualifications and undergo initial as well as extensive recurrent training.
Currently both K-9’s are certified through the United States Police Canine Association and are members of U.S.P.C.A. Region 14. Each K9 team is certified in the areas of handler protection, evidence searches, tracking, building searches, field searches, suspect apprehension, obedience, agility, and narcotic detection.
The Sheriff’s Office is extremely happy to be able to improve upon the service brought to the citizens of Finney County through the use of police service dogs. The impact they have on modern day policing is immeasurable, and their positive influences Office wide result in better service for the public.
The K-9 unit works in conjunction with other area law enforcement agencies and schools in Finney County to complete random narcotics sniffs of the public schools and secondary education facilities in Finney County to help maintain a drug free learning environment.
