The National Little Britches Rodeo Association (NLBRA) is the oldest national junior rodeo association in the country. Kids from age 5 through 18 are eligible to participate. It features five divisions for contestants including Little Wranglers (age 5-7), Junior Girls and Junior Boys (ages 8-13), Senior Girls and Senior Boys (age 13-18) and provides a safe place for America’s youth to have fun and experience the great sport of rodeo. NLBRA’s history is dynamic with teaching life long sportsmanship skills, while leading young people to become successful in their careers, and lives, occasionally they are some of the best in the rodeo industry. Scholarships are available through a generous sponsorship program, to help further the youth member’s education. Little Britches educates young rodeo athletes on the importance of being in top physical condition and preventative health issues, in addition to learning athletic and sportsmanship skills in the arena. NLBRA World championship titles are earned while competing at the National Little Britches Rodeo Finals held each summer. This event has an overall economic impact of more that $8 million with contestant visits at local restaurants, hotels and amusements throughout the week. Most of these young cowhands are accompanied by their parents and relatives, making the rodeo truly a family-oriented event; this is also true of your hometown rodeo. Come watch these top hand cowgirls and cowboys competing from Southwest Kansas counties, and surrounding states. Talented hometown youth will be competing as well. We’ll see you at the Finney County Fairgrounds! [Additional info...]

The next phases of construction on the US-50 four-lane project call for closing Big Lowe Road north of US-50. The Kansas Department of Transportation expects the contractor to be ready to close the road just north of Holcomb Scraper, Inc., by Monday, October 26. Once closed, construction crews will work on the intersection of Big Lowe Road and what’s designated as Road 600L, which will eventually serve as the access road to properties on the north side of US-50, west of Big Lowe Road. During this phase, Big Lowe Road will remain open at the intersection of US-50 for access to the south and to Holcomb Scraper and Acosta Homes on the north side of US-50. Once the intersection and the new access road are completed all traffic on Big Lowe Road north of the highway will be detoured onto the access road and Big Lowe will be closed completely north of US-50 and remain closed until the US-50/Big Lowe interchange is finished. If you have questions on this project, you may contact Craig Schlott, Construction Engineer, at 620-276-3241 or Gary Bennett, Area Engineer, at 620-384-7821.
